My BC-610 was found on Ebay and had to be shipped from Georgia to Santa Paula. I had been looking for one for years when this one turned up. Two weeks later, I found one literally "around the corner" in a nearby hangar I could have had just for asking... Murphy strikes again! (That unit is now in the hands of a friend of mine)
A huge pile of nuts spilled out of the transmitter when it was opened. Apparently, some varmint had called it home for awhile and was waiting for the big one... the critter had also left deposits on the tops of each chassis. It apparently preferred the RF deck.
Each chassis was completely disassembled, cleaned and put into the bead blaster to remove all traces of corrosion. I then took them to a plating shop in Burbank, and had them redone in CAD-2 (Yellow) cadmium. I cut stencils with my sign cutter and painted new markings in the same size and font as the originals, so now I have all "new" chassis. All of the major components were cleaned, blasted and repainted or replated as necessary and mounted back to the chassis with new hardware of the original vintage and style.
I was able to reuse the wiring harnesses in the RF and Modulator chassis, but the Power Supply chassis harness was finished. I ordered new, original-style, cotton-covered wire from an outfit that specializes in rebuilding vintage tractors and magnetos, and am rewiring that chassis. Too bad no one will ever see it, except in these pictures.
